Lake Oswego author to speak in Vatican

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- Local author Greg Hadley has been invited to speak at the Pontifical Conference “Ethics, Aging and the Coming Healthcare Challenge” in Rome, Italy on Dec. 2.

The conference, dealing with the pressing ethical, medical and economic issues caused by lengthening lifespans and aging demographics, takes place at the Pontifical Lateran University, in Vatican City.

Hadley resides with his wife, Evelyn, at Mary’s Woods at Marylhurst, a continuing care retirement community, in Lake Oswego. In addition to his current book, Hadley has written several other books and numerous articles.

The impact that pharmaceutical research, intellectual property rights, healthcare and welfare will have on our elderly and their relationship with the younger generations will be examined by academics, practitioners, clergy, and policy-makers from around the world.

Hadley leads off the conference’s fourth session, “Providing Professional Care for the Elderly in Assisted Living Centers.” Presenting major themes from his recent book, Aging: The Autumn Phase of Life, he will discuss the different facets of aging — not just the physical changes it brings on — the denial we experience as a result of aging, and the losses that aging brings about and how to cope with them.

“We are delighted that Mr. Hadley will be one our presenters. His knowledge and experience will add an important element to the discussion,” said Kishore Jayabalan, director of the Acton Institute’s Rome office.

The Acton Institute is one of the conference sponsors.
